Whether you are the Realtor or a buyer, it is important to make sure you both mean the same thing with the terms you use. A “big yard” or “privacy” or even much used descriptors like “ranch style” often mean different things to different people.
I am working with a buyer who said she wanted an older home but did not want a ranch house. (Here in Eugene that doesn’t leave much!)
My assumption was that she didn’t want to see any rectangular floorplans with all the bedrooms and a bath or two on one side and the living and kitchen areas on the other. I was thinking floor plan.
When I asked her what she didn’t like about ranches though, she brought up design details: High, shallow windows, thin moldings, and popcorn ceilings. These are details found in ranch style houses, but not all of them! Read the rest of this entry »
